Print Multiple PDF Pages: Save Paper and Space
Fit PDF pages or copies onto one sheet and solve common print layout issues.
Why print several PDF pages on one sheet?
To print multiple PDF pages on one sheet, open the print settings and choose a pages-per-sheet layout. Pick two, four, or another available number, then check the preview before printing. This works in Acrobat, Mac Preview, Chrome, and many Windows print windows.
Fewer sheets can lower paper use and make handouts easier to carry. A four-page layout can also help with drafts, class notes, or reference sheets. Small pages can be harder to read, so use this layout for content that remains clear when reduced.
- Use two pages per sheet for larger, easier-to-read text.
- Choose four pages per sheet for compact notes or drafts.
- Check that the printer supports your chosen paper size and layout.

Set up multiple pages per sheet
First, open the PDF and select Print. Find a setting called Pages per sheet, Multiple, or Page sizing. The exact name depends on the app and printer driver.
Choose the number of pages for each sheet, then set the page order and orientation if those options appear. Select portrait or landscape based on the shape of your pages. Review the print preview, since it shows whether the pages fit and remain readable.
- Open the PDF and choose Print.
- Set the paper size, such as Letter or A4.
- Choose a pages-per-sheet layout, such as four.
- Set orientation and page order if needed.
- Check the preview, then print one test sheet.
Windows print options vary by app and printer. If the app lacks a pages-per-sheet setting, open Printer Properties or Preferences. Look for a layout or finishing tab, and check for N-up or multiple-page printing.

Print with Adobe Acrobat or Mac Preview
In Adobe Acrobat Reader, open the PDF and select Print. Under Page Sizing and Handling, choose Multiple. Set Pages per sheet to two, four, or another listed choice. Use the preview to check page order and spacing before you print.
To print four copies of one PDF page on a single sheet, enter that page number four times in the Pages field, separated by commas. For example, type 1,1,1,1 to place four copies of page one. Then choose Multiple and set four pages per sheet. If your Acrobat version offers a copies-per-sheet layout, use that setting instead.
On a Mac, open the file in Preview and choose File, then Print. Find the Layout options in the print window, and set Pages per Sheet to four. If Layout is hidden, open the print dialog's details. Preview may use a printer driver setting, so check the preview and test one page first.
With a multi-page PDF, the pages-per-sheet setting places different pages on each sheet. It does not create repeated copies by itself. To repeat one page, enter its number more than once or use a copies-per-sheet option.

Print PDFs from Chrome
Open the PDF in Chrome and press Ctrl+P on Windows or Command+P on Mac. You can also select the printer icon. In the print panel, choose a printer and open More settings.
Chrome's built-in print panel may not show a pages-per-sheet control for every printer. Check the Layout, Pages per sheet, or similar option under More settings. If it is missing, save or open the PDF in Acrobat, Preview, or another app with that feature.
Before printing in Chrome, make sure the PDF itself has the pages you need. Remove unwanted pages or save a new PDF with only the pages for your handout. Check paper size, orientation, and scale in the preview. Printer settings can override the options shown in Chrome.
Put multiple images on one page
To print several images on one page, first place them in a document or combine them into a PDF. Set the page size, then arrange the images in a grid. For four images, a two-by-two grid is a simple starting point.
Resize each image while keeping its proportions. Leave space between images and around the page edges. If the images look soft in print, use larger source files. Avoid enlarging small images, since that can make edges appear jagged or blurred.
For four images on one PDF page, use a page layout tool to arrange four pictures, then export or print the page as a PDF. You can also add each image to its own PDF page and print four pages per sheet. The first method keeps all four images together on one PDF page.
Check the final PDF at full size before printing. Make sure the images fit inside the printable area and retain enough detail. If the printer trims the edges, shrink the grid or increase the page margins.
Fix margins, scaling, and other print problems
Large margins or cut-off content often come from a mismatch between the PDF page and the paper size. Set both to the same size, such as Letter or A4. If the page still clips, choose Fit to printable area or reduce the scale slightly.
When pages appear too small, lower the number of pages per sheet. Four pages on a sheet can make dense text hard to read. Try two per sheet, or print a single page to check the text size.
- Pages are cut off: Check paper size, orientation, and printer margins.
- Pages print in the wrong order: Review page order in the app's preview.
- The preview differs from the print: Check the printer's own layout and scale settings.
- The layout option is missing: Try Acrobat, Preview, or the printer's settings.
Confirm that your printer supports the chosen paper size and layout before sending a large job. Some printers lack built-in multiple-page layouts. A test sheet can catch problems before you use more paper.
Best ways to get a clean print
Use the print preview every time you change the page count, scale, or orientation. Check that no content sits too close to the edge. Keep a copy of the original PDF in case you need to try a different layout.
For a quick handout, start with four pages per sheet and print one test. Move to two pages per sheet if the text is hard to read. For repeated copies of one page, enter its page number multiple times or use a copies-per-sheet feature. These small checks help save paper without sacrificing a useful print.
