Combining PDF Files in Foxit: Steps and Tips

What Foxit PDF Editor Can Do

Foxit PDF Editor can join several PDF files into one document. Use its Combine Files function to add documents, set their order, and create a single PDF. The steps are much the same whether you are joining a few reports or arranging a larger set of files.

Before you start, check that Foxit PDF Editor is installed and that you can open the PDFs you want to use. Menu names and screen layouts can vary by version. If a command looks different, search the Tools area for Combine Files.

Keep the original PDFs until you have checked the merged copy. This gives you a safe backup if the pages appear in the wrong order or a file is missing.

Prepare Your PDF Files First

A little file planning makes PDF merging easier. Put the source documents in one folder, then give them names that make their order clear. For example, use “01 Cover,” “02 Report,” and “03 Appendix.” This helps you spot the right files when you add them.

Open each PDF and check that it is the right version. Look for blank pages, rotated pages, or pages that should not be shared. If a PDF is password-protected, make sure you have permission and the password needed to open it.

Think about the final reading order before you begin. A short document may need only a cover, main section, and appendix. For a long set of files, write down the order first.

  • Gather the PDFs in one easy-to-find folder.
  • Check each file opens and has the right pages.
  • Choose a clear order for the final document.
  • Pick a new name and folder for the combined PDF.

Combine PDFs in Foxit PDF Editor

To combine PDF files in Foxit PDF Editor, open the Combine Files tool. In many versions, you can find it from the File menu or the Convert tab. You can also look in the Tools area if your layout differs.

Choose Add Files to browse for PDFs on your computer. Select one or more files, then confirm your choice. You can also drag files into the area for the combine list, if your version supports drag and drop.

Review the list before you merge. Select a file and use the move controls to change its place, or drag it up or down. Put the first document at the top and the last one at the bottom. Remove any file you added by mistake.

When the order looks right, choose Combine or the matching command. Foxit creates a new PDF from the files in the list. The merge may take longer when the source files contain many pages or large images.

  1. Open Foxit PDF Editor and find Combine Files.
  2. Select Add Files, or drag PDFs into the list.
  3. Move each document into the order you want.
  4. Choose Combine and wait for the new PDF to open.
  5. Use Save As to name and store the merged document.

Saving is an essential final step. Choose a name that distinguishes the new file from the originals, such as “Quarterly Report Combined.” Save it in the folder you chose during preparation.

Use Action Wizard for Batch Processing

Foxit PDF Editor Pro includes Action Wizard features for repeat tasks. It can help when you need to apply the same steps to many files. This can save time when you handle recurring PDF jobs.

For a batch workflow, open Action Wizard and create or select an action that fits your task. Add the steps you need, then choose the files or folder to process. Check the available actions in your version, since tools can differ by edition.

Test the action on a small group first. Review the output before running it on a large set. Batch work can affect many files at once, so keep untouched copies of the source PDFs.

Action Wizard is useful for repeat processing, but it may not replace manual ordering for every merge. If each group needs a different sequence, check the file list and output closely.

Tips for a Clean, Reliable Merge

For a smooth merge, use clear file names and confirm the order before you combine. This matters most when documents have similar names or several versions. A quick check can prevent a misplaced page from reaching the final copy.

After the merge, scroll through the new PDF from start to finish. Check the first and last pages, then inspect the points where one source file ends and another begins. Confirm that pages are upright and that no document was skipped.

Use Save As rather than overwriting a source file. Keep the original documents until the combined PDF has passed your review. If the merged file will be shared, use a sensible name and store it in the right folder.

For large files, close other apps that use a lot of memory and allow Foxit time to finish. Do not close the program during the merge or save. If the result seems incomplete, compare its page count with the source files.

Fix Common Combine Problems

If a PDF does not appear in the list, check its folder and file type. Make sure it opens in Foxit before adding it. A damaged or restricted file may need repair or permission from its owner.

If pages appear in the wrong order, return to the combine list when possible and move the source files. If the merge is already done, run Combine Files again with the corrected order. Save the new copy under a different name so it does not replace the earlier result.

If Foxit stops during a large merge, try a smaller group of PDFs first. Save each group, then combine those output files into one final document. This approach can help narrow down a file that causes the problem.

If the output is missing pages, compare its page count with the source documents. Open each source file to check for access limits or damaged pages. Then repeat the merge and review the new copy before sharing it.
